It’s a coat of armor made out of hours of patient work under a tiny lamp.
No matter if no one is aware of it, it’s a unique token of love you’re wearing.

It’s the wonderfullness of childhood.
Seeing her become a kitten-princess with the most whimsical back-scratching tool as a scepter and striped socks as dancing shoes.
It’s her joy and mirror dancing.
All the dreams that are comprised in a few hours of cutting and sewing her « favorite fabric of all times ».
To those who tell me oh my, when do you find the time or why do you bother, I can only answer that: I do because it’s (oh so) worth it.

when a weareable garment appear out of plain rectangles of fabric
For once
Shame on me for not having come here often lately. But I was busy with a very important task: being in love with a few gorgeous fabrics from my dearest partners in crime Lil Weasel and figuring out what to sew and for whom.
Oh, the endless possibilities of a plain rectangle of fabric spread before your eyes. Deciding whether it will be a skirt or a dress maybe? Plain or ruffled. With ribbons or buttons, and which ones then? I find the whole process of creating so amusing; from the choice of supplies to the anticipation, down to the tiny sting of apprehension when you tackle a new pattern and are not quite sure about yourself. I could even say that I love it almost more of the result itself (in fact I mostly sew for other people).
But for once, when I walked into the fabric store I had something in mind for myself and among the many fabrics which caught my eye for my kids I just found the right pattern (Airelle from Deer and Doe) and supplies for it. So here it is, the first garment I’ve sewn for myself in a very long time. I just loved the whole process; each step is well detailed and the result is lovely as can be (i’ve only added some piping because I thought it would give a nice sparkle on both sides). Well, if I loved sewing it, I must confess that I’m just as happy to wear it now.

C’est mal, je sais, j’ai négligé cet espace ces derniers temps. En ma défense, je peux dire que j’étais absorbée par une activité très importante: admirer les magnifiques tissus achetés chez mes mercières préférées, aka Lil Weasel, et imaginer ce que j’allais bien pouvoir coudre avec et pour qui.
Ah, les possibilités infinies que recèle un rectangle de tissu vierge étalé sous vos yeux. Décider si en faire une robe ou alors une jupe ou un chemisier? Avec boutons ou fermeture? Bicolore ou unie? Je trouve le processus de création passionnant d’un bout à l’autre; du choix des fournitures à l’anticipation du resultant, jusqu’à la petite appréhension au bout des doigts quand on utilise un nouveau patron pour la première fois. J’aime tout de ce processus. Je dirais même que je l’aime en soi, indépendamment du resultat, d’ailleurs j’offre ce que je couds la plus part du temps.
Mais, pour une fois, quand j’ai passé la porte de la boutique, j’avais une idée précise de quelque chose que je voulais pour moi et, au milieu des milles motifs qui me faisaient de l’oeil pour les enfants, j’ai toute de suite trouvé mon bonheur en matière de patron (Airelle de chez Deer and Doe) et tissus. La voilà donc, cette petite blouse, la première chose que j’aie cousue pour moi depuis très longtemps. Airelle est un patron très bien coupé et expliqué, comme toujours, un vrai bonheur à coudre. Mais franchement, pour une fois, c’est aussi chouette d’en porter le résultat!
